My Puppy Checklist

SG1 Freia's puppy1.  Schedule a health check with your Veterinarian within 72 hours after picking up your puppy. This ensures you are getting a healthy puppy and establishes a client relationship with your Veterinarian and puppy for future vaccinations and visits. We will provide you with health records for your puppy to assist you and your Veterinarian. Your puppy will be current on all vaccinations, but will need its 3rd vaccination at 12 weeks old and 4th vaccination at 16 weeks old in order to complete the series.

2.  Please bring remaining balance in CASH. No other form of payment is accepted on pick up day.

3.  If you have a dog or pet with you when you come to visit, your pet is more than welcome and we would love to meet them, but please check with us first before letting him or her out of your vehicle. Diseases like Parvovirus can be spread by a healthy immunized dog or even a person’s shoes by simply stepping in infected areas during your travel and transferring it to our grounds. Some diseases can remain in the soil for up to a year if not treated. A young puppy can be exposed and contract diseases even though their puppy shot series has been started. We try very hard to protect each puppy and future puppies from any exposure to diseases. We can show you what areas are designated for your pet to relieve itself. We also provide shoe coverings to everyone who wishes to enter or walk around areas where our puppies play, which is about 2.5 acres.

4.  Proper collar or harness and leash. Collar/neck size is approximately 12″ and girth is approximately 18″ in circumference.

5.  Water container to offer your puppy water on its trip home.

6.  Crate for traveling (if you prefer), but it’ll probably end up in your lap before the trip is over. 😊 Approximate dimensions of your puppy to assist with crate size: Shoulder height 15″, head height 20″, length from base of tail to nose 21″.

7.  A couple of toys or things to keep your puppy entertained during the trip home and for around the house. Be sure to select toys for your puppy that are safe and don’t have parts they can choke on if it tears apart.  Be sure to rid anything poisonous in areas where the puppy will be.  Many common plants, foods, household/garage chemicals and medications can be deadly.  You can use google to find lists of such items.  It’s always safest and easiest on their system to just feed dog food and limited healthy dog treats.  It’s fun to give them treats or snacks every once and a while, but make sure to do it safely.

8.  We recommend both American Journey Puppy Lamb & Sweet Potato or Merrick Puppy Beef & Sweet Potato.  We currently have the puppies on the “Merrick puppy food” and will send enough of it home with you to get you started.  We get it online from chewy.com.  You may want to start off with the Merrick puppy food and then gradually switch it over to something of equal or better quality.  Unfortunately, many Veterinarians recommend dog foods that are not high quality or best for your puppy.  We are happy to explain how to recognize quality ingredients when you pick up your puppy if that would be helpful.

9.  We highly recommend you supplement your puppy with NuVet Plus so that your pup can get all of the wonderful benefits that it has to offer. NuVet is a tasty treat that provides all of the nutrients a puppy needs to grow into a healthy adult! We personally use NuVet and have for several years on all of our dogs. We want to make sure they have all the necessary nutrition to help them live a long, healthy life. NuVet provides an excellent supplement designed to promote healthy bones and joints which can help prevent hip & elbow dysplasia in breeds that are prone to it. Keep in mind, your German Shepherd dog can still get dysplasia even when they come from healthy bloodlines free of it; through nutritional deficiencies or injuries.  Especially, during the growth stages.

NuVet is recommended because it boosts the immune system which will help protect your puppy from harmful environmental toxins, bacteria, and even chemicals in the yard and home. NuVet also supports proper development, healthy skin and a shiny coat, and it helps complete their daily nutritional requirements for optimal health.

A healthy puppy is a happy puppy and that is why we recommend NuVet to all of our customers.

You can save 15% on your puppy’s supplements by signing up for their Auto Ship Program and they ship directly to your door.

You can order directly from the manufacturer by calling 800-474-7044 and using Order Code: 893875, or order online at www.nuvet.com/893875 . We do receive commission by recommending their product, but honestly we would recommend it either way and have been recommending it long before they contacted us.
